The sofa takes more use than any other piece of furniture in a home, and it is the one that gets cleaned least. Dust, stains and moisture stay inside the fibres, where neither a vacuum cleaner nor surface cleaning with a sponge reaches.

Professional upholstery cleaning is done with an extraction machine: a hot solution goes into the fabric and is drawn back out immediately along with the dirt. The furniture is not soaked and is ready to use within 3 to 5 hours.

How the sofa cleaning works

Preparation

We remove the cushions and any loose debris from the folds and joints of the sofa, so the machine works on a clear surface.

Stain treatment

Each area with a stain is treated separately and given time to work before the machine passes over it.

Deep clean by extraction

The machine covers the entire surface, including the cushions and the sides.

Final check

We put the furniture back and go through the result with you before we leave.

How the clean works, step by step

1. Fabric check. We look at what the fabric is, where the stains are, and whether anything is worn or split. If something does not look safe for a wet clean, we tell you before we start, not afterwards.
2. Deep vacuum. Before any water goes in, the dry soil and crumbs come out of the seams and from under the cushions. Skip this and the dust turns to mud the moment it gets wet.
3. Stain pre-treatment. Marks are worked individually and left to dwell for a few minutes.
4. Extraction. A hot solution goes into the fibres and is drawn straight back out with the dirt. The fabric is not soaked — it stays slightly damp.
5. Final pass. One last pass with no solution pulls out the remaining moisture so it dries faster.

What to have ready

• Clear the sofa of personal items, remotes and throws.
• Leave room around it so we can work from every side.
• We need one power socket and access to water.
• If a pet is nervous of noise, another room is kinder — the machine is loud.

What to realistically expect

In most cases the stain goes completely. Marks that have been there for months or years can leave a faint shadow: the dirt is gone, but the fibre itself has changed and will not return to its original colour. The same is true of sun damage or fabric that has faded unevenly.

What counts as upholstery

Upholstery is any fabric-covered furniture, not just the sofa. In most homes that means the three-piece suite, the armchairs, dining chairs and office chairs — and the headboard, which people almost always forget. We clean all of it with the same hot-water extraction method, in the same visit, and combining pieces is what gets you over the €100 threshold for the 15% discount.
